Farse of the Teacups....

"Do we raise Teacup sized Biewer Terriers?"
This is a question that makes me cringe when asked!  There is a terrible trend sweeping the country that gives misinformed consumers the misguided notion they are purchasing a RARE, UNIQUE, SPECIAL little puppy.  These poor unknowing people are paying thousands of dollars for a sickly little dog that will have a shorter life, and more than likely, a lifetime of health problems.   In reality, what these people are purchasing is a runt!

The purposeful breeding of undersized dogs (Below standard 4-8 lbs) is extremely unethical, unsafe, and unhealthy.  Any breeder purposefully raising dogs sized below the standard for their breed are not interested in the furthering of their breed.

There is no such thing as a Teacup or MICRO sized Breed. This term is not a recognized description of a Toy Breed by AKC, UKC, ARBA, BTRA or any reputable registry.   It is a marketing scheme to cash in on the rise of interest in 'Pocket Pets' due to the popularity of many young celebrities seen carrying little dogs around as a fashion accessory.  Please make an educated choice when choosing your next pet---do NOT fall for this marketing scheme, do not support these breeders.

If a breeder says they specialize in "teacups" BEWARE!   Most "TEACUP" puppies are in reality, a premature puppy!
In the old days, a premature animal was considered a Runt, and known to be weak, not preferred.

Do you want the expense and responsibility of a premature dog?

Some of the problems encountered with TEACUP/PREMATURE puppies.
(Both genetic and congenital)::

Risk of open fontanels
Portosystemic shunts (PSS)
Severe Hypoglycemia
Cardiac problems
Collapsing trachea
Luxating patellas
Leggs Calves Perthes disease
seizures
Hydroencephaly
Blindness
Digestive problems

If you have one of these dogs dibilitated by defects, these issues can remain or worsen throughout their lives!  Usually,  these puppies are so fragile that they do not live more than a few years. Many tiny Yorkie, Biewer and Maltese adults have been reported to still have open fontanels, requiring constant nourishment at all times.

Mon Petit Chiens (My Little Puppies) ONLY breeds standard sized TOY BIEWERS  (4-8 lbs).  Our puppies are healthy, and are meant to be a beloved pet, not a fashion accessory.  Anyone looking for a micro or teacup sized dog need look elsewhere, I refuse to breed down my lines and purposefully raise these sizes.  They are not healthy!  Occasionally, we will have a smaller pup in the litter, and this happens naturally, not purposefully bred.  I do not see or understand the want for a dog below 4 lbs.  They can break a leg from jumping off the sofa.  Poor little things!

A note about carriers and toy dogs---
Although it is fun to be able to take your small dog with you, please remember, your Biewer is a dog, and needs to be allowed to run and play, rest, and socialize like all dogs.  Try to keep your home life balanced, for the sake of your puppy.  They should not be carried around all day, they need time to be a dog.
